2015 Sustainable Agriculture Symposium

On Saturday November 7th, 2015 at the College of Idaho campus, the Idaho Center for Sustainable Agriculture (ICSA) will bring together farmers, dairy operators, gardeners, government officials, and advocacy groups from around the U.S. to educate, network, and seek real solutions to our agricultural opportunities. This year we are excited to be partnering with the College of Idaho’s Environmental Studies program! Our focus this year will be on Local Success Stories in Idaho.

John Ikerd -  Professor Emeritus of Agricultural Economics, University of Missouri, Columbia
John Ikerd

John was raised on a small dairy farm in southwest Missouri and received his BS, MS, and Ph.D. degrees in agricultural economics from the University of Missouri. He worked in private industry for a time and spent thirty years in various professorial positions at North Carolina State University, Oklahoma State University, University of Georgia, and the University of Missouri before retiring in early 2000. Since retiring, he spends most of his time writing and speaking on issues related to sustainability with an emphasis on economics and agriculture. He currently resides in Fairfield, IA with his wife, Ellen, two dogs, and two cats. Ikerd is author of Essentials of Economic Sustainability, Sustainable Capitalism, A Return to Common Sense, Small Farms are Real Farms, Crisis and Opportunity: Sustainability in American Agriculture, and A Revolution of the Middle. Glenn Elzinga – Alderspring Ranch, Idaho
Glenn Elzingas

Glenn Elzinga is a 20 year veterans of raising grass fed organic beef, successfully marketing through natural food stores and online. Because of personal health challenges, he is passionate about producing food that helps people recover health and vitality. He is a staunch advocate for stewardship of Idaho’s natural rangelands. The Elzingas live in May, Idaho with a bevy of beautiful cowgirls – their seven daughters. Glenn has been raising grass fed organic beef at Alderspring Ranch for 20 years in the high mountain valleys of central Idaho.

The conference agenda includes concurrent interactive workshop sessions exploring topics of soil management, water management, composting, livestock grazing, introduction to permaculture and more.

The conference will also feature an exhibit hall to provide companies, advocacy groups and any other organizations the opportunity to connect with attendees and network professionally.  Space is limited vendor booth sales and managed on a first-come first-served basis.
